President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva stated, in the early hours of this Saturday (25), that he hopes to meet with the President of the United States, Donald Trump. The two leaders are in the Asian country to participate in the 47th summit of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean). “I hope it works. I came here and I’m available so we can find a solution.”
The statement was given at a press conference with journalists in front of the hotel hosting the Brazilian delegation in Malaysia.
“We will put the problems on the table and try to find a solution. So, you can be sure that there will be a solution.”
To journalists, Lula denied that conditions had been placed for bilateral negotiations around the impasse generated by the 50% increase in tariffs on imports of Brazilian products by the United States, from the beginning of August.
“I work with optimism so that we can find a solution. There is no demand from him and there is no demand from me yet.”
Trump
On the way to Malaysia, aboard the Air Force One plane, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, told journalists, for the first time, that he could consider reducing tariffs on Brazilian exports to his country. “Yes, under the right circumstances, certainly”, pondered the North American leader.
Furthermore, he confirmed that he should meet with Lula this Sunday (26). “I think we will meet again. We will meet soon at the United Nations.”
The two presidents are expected to meet in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia, this Sunday.
