In a statement, the Brazilian government reported that the two presidents “reaffirmed the purpose of cultivating productive relations with all countries in the Americas, including the new United States administration, in order to maintain peace, strengthen democracy and promote the development of the region “.
Mexico sees tension with the new US government increase after Donald Trump declared an emergency in the border area between the two countries, sending troops and promising a mass deportation program for immigrants trying to reach the country this way.
Lula and Sheinbaum also highlighted the importance of strengthening forums such as the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) and agreed to maintain regular contact channels to expand coordination between Brazil and Mexico.
Still according to Planalto, the Brazilian president invited the Mexican president to make a state visit to Brazil.
