Lula and Alckmin will graduate today president and vice president

President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and vice-president-elect Geraldo Alckmin will graduate today (12) in their respective positions, in a ceremony scheduled for 2 pm at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).

The solemn act, with around 300 guests and with a strong security system, marks the end of the entire electoral process. The diploma attesting that Lula and Alckmin were elected by popular vote will be signed by the president of the TSE, Alexandre de Moraes.
According to the Electoral Code, the name of the candidate, the initials by which he was elected and the position must appear on the certificate. Issuance of the document is a formality that conditions tenure in office. That is, in possession of the diploma Lula and Alckmin are able to take over from January 1st.

In practice, the diploma is a certificate given by the TSE that the elections were regular. This is because the document can only be issued after meeting several requirements, such as the approval of campaign accounts, the completion of all electoral audit steps and the initial analysis of appeals against the result of the election.

Moraes has already denied a lawsuit filed by the PL, party of President Jair Bolsonaro, defeated in his bid for re-election. The legend alleged a security flaw in some models of voting machines, but was unable to prove its allegations. The president of the TSE fined the association about R$ 23 million, for litigation in bad faith.

According to the TSE, there are no appeals in the Electoral Court against the diplomacy act of the president and vice-elect. The graduation ceremony takes place one week before the end of the period provided for in the electoral rules. According to protocol, speeches by Lula and Moraes are expected.

There are expectations that, after the ceremony, Lula will announce more names from his ministerial cabinet, as he himself has already anticipated. The announcement of the first women in the first echelon of the new government is also expected. On Friday (9), the president-elect announced five namesamong them the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad, and Justice, Flávio Dino.
