Luiz Felipe Scolari announced this Sunday that he is putting an end to his extensive coaching career. Felipao, 74, retires from the benches coinciding with the last day of Brasileirao 2022. His last game in charge of Ath Paranaense ended with a very important 3-0 win against Botafogo, with one of the goals scored by the young star Vitor Roque, only 17 years old. With these three points, Furacao qualified directly for the group stage of the Copa Libertadores 2023.

From now on, Felipao changes the changing rooms for the offices, and has already been announced as the new technical director of Furacao. He will have a decisive role in preparing the squad for next season, which begins in January. Your substitute coach is a person you trust the most: Paul Turra, who was his technical assistant.

Scolari retires as the last Brazilian coach to have been world champion. It was twenty years ago, when in 2022 he won the World Cup in South Korea and Japan, conquering the ‘Penta’. Since then, the Seleçao has accumulated a series of failures, including elimination from the World Cup in Brazil in 2014, with 1-7 against Germany in the semifinals, with the gaucho coach on the bench.

Over four decades, Felipao coached 18 clubs and seven national teams, having worked in seven different countries. He directed almost 1,700 matches in which he won more than 800 victories. This season, Scolari led the Ath. Paranaense until the final of the Copa Libertadores 2022but ended up losing 1-0 against Flamengo, in a match, played in Guayaquil, in which Furacao was left with ten already in the first half due to the expulsion due to double warning of central defender Pedro Henrique.
