Luisa Stefani returned to compete at the Chennai Open after a year in recovery from knee surgery. The procedure was necessary due to a torn cruciate ligament during last year’s US Open doubles semifinal, also alongside Gabi Dabrowski.
“I came with no expectation of results, with the head and perspective of knowing how I was going to feel physically and emotionally. I’m really happy with how I’ve been feeling all week and I’m still in that same mindset. The most important thing is to take it one day at a time and see how the body responds, I hope to continue improving in terms of level, pace and also being healthy, which is the most important thing”, said the athlete shortly after qualifying.
Stefani and Gabi Dabrowski have already won together in 2021 the WTA 1000 of Cincinnati and WTA 500 of San Jose, both in the United States. Also last year, the Brazilian was runner-up twice alongside North American Hayley Carter: in the WTA 500 in Abu Dhabi (UAE) and in the WTA 500 in Adelaide Australia).
