Luis Valdez Veras, director de Impuesto Internos.

The former director general of Internal Revenue, Luis Valdez Verassaid goodbye this Tuesday to the institution, and to the country after concluding five years and four months at the head of the General Directorate of Internal Taxes (DGII), a period in which he highlighted progress in modernization, transparency and compliance with collection goals after having been replaced by presidential decree.

In a message published on his Instagram account, Valdez Veras expressed his gratitude to God, the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader Corona, the institution’s collaborators, the business sector and the media, for the support provided during his administration.

“I thank, first of all, Almighty God for having allowed me to exercise this function with strength, wisdom and responsibility,” he expressed, while recognizing the “distinguished and invaluable vote of confidence” of the president.

The former official highlighted the role of the DGII’s technical and administrative team, whom he described as “key to achieving institutional goals,” as well as the contribution of business associations, professional associations and representatives of the productive sectors, whose openness to dialogue, he said, was decisive for the progress achieved.

64 consecutive months exceeding the goal

Valdez Veras stressed that during his management the DGII reached 64 uninterrupted months meeting and exceeding collection goals, which he defined as one of the main achievements of the period.

Likewise, he highlighted the promotion of a digital transformation process that positioned the Dominican Tax Administration among the most modern and innovative in the region, strengthening proximity with taxpayers and promoting open-door management.

“Together we consolidate a more modern, efficient and transparent Tax Administration, based on mutual respect, closeness to taxpayers and awareness of our role as public servants,” he stated.

In the final part of his message, Valdez Veras assured that he leaves with satisfaction and gratitude, trusting that the DGII will continue to strengthen itself as an efficient, modern institution oriented to tax compliance in a fair and equitable environment.

“Today I say goodbye with humility and gratitude, trusting that the DGII will continue to consolidate itself in favor of the best interests of the nation,” he concluded.
