The National Alliance for the Rights of Peoples (Anadepo) and the Association of Educators from Veragüenses (AEVE), have expressed that they do not recognize the recent table opened by the Executive in the City of Knowledge.
On July 11, the government set up a high-level working group led by the Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday, in order to talk with leaders of the National Alliance for the Rights of the Organized People (Anadepo) and other organizations about the demands who have been complaining throughout the week about the price of fuel, the cost of the basic food basket and medicines.
The table was made up of representatives of Commerce and Industries, Economy, Government and Agricultural Development, the Ombudsman’s Office, as well as representatives of the Free Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority (Acodeco), the Traffic and Land Transportation Authority, and Energy, among other entities linked to the claims of freezing the price of fuel and the basic basket.
Despite this, AEVE and Anadepo left the table and declared an indefinite strike after failing to reach an agreement.
Luis Sánchez, general secretary of AEVE, expressed this Friday on Radio Panama, that the dialogue table convened by the president and that took place this Thursday at the City of Knowledge, was a harmful and negative chess move for the Panamanian people.
“The discomfort is because the president meets with his Cabinet at a ‘me with me’ table, a table that did not bring together the living forces of Panama and we are totally unaware of that table. We call on the President of the Republic so that today find a solution to this problem and that we cannot move forward; from point 1 that was delivered last week”, remarked the teacher’s leader.
Sánchez reiterated that so far they have not received any satisfactory response from the Executive.
The teachers’ unions will resume the negotiating table in Santiago, this Friday, at 10:00 am
