MIAMI, United States. — Luis Rodríguez Pérez, husband of Angélica Garrido and brother-in-law of María Cristina Garrido, dams For participating in the anti-government demonstrations on July 11, 2021 (J11) in Quivicán, Mayabeque province, she has been one of the main victims of the confinement of the sisters.
Given the impunity that exists on the island, Rodríguez Pérez has used social networks to denounce the situation of these women, confined in the prison of the guatao.
With his particular way of writing and telling reality, the man has remained firm. To channel the pain that injustice and family separation imply, Rodríguez Pérez has relied on words and has captivated acquaintances and strangers with his poems and stories.
His posts on social networks, in which he expresses his sorrow for the captivity of his wife and sister-in-law, have gained reach in recent months. His texts —he says— are not previously manufactured or conceived. He only writes what he thinks, especially after each visit he makes to his loved ones.
On April 24, Luis Rodríguez Pérez was able to visit the sisters in the El Guatao prison. The man told CubaNet that the separation has been and continues to be very difficult.
“They have taken their children, their family, they have been orphaned,” Rodríguez Pérez declared in relation to the recent death of the sisters’ parents.
The children of both —he pointed out— have also accused the lack of their mothers in all areas of life.
Angélica and María Cristina Garrido were sentenced to three and seven years’ imprisonment, respectively, for the alleged crimes of assault, public disorder and disobedience.
During the 20 months they have been in prison, they have suffered all kinds of abuse in prison, which has had a negative impact on the physical and mental stability of the convicted women.
