Luis Pinedo, from the Citizen Consultation Movement-El Cabildazo, revealed this Friday on Radio Panama, that it is underway and has managed to obtain a thousand signatures that the law requires to hold an Open Cabildo.
“An Open Town Hall is a public meeting of the Municipal Council: the mayor, the 26 representatives of our district speaking to the public in public, and there we citizens can talk whatever we want, unless we don’t talk about any particular project,” he explained. .
He announced that this petition will be submitted at the end of the month, since they want to collect more signatures.
He added that this has never happened in our country. “The Cabildazo process is unprecedented, what is important is that our citizen participation is put to the test,” he said.
He stressed that, if this Open Town Hall takes place, the Municipal Council would be organized and the citizens establish the issues to be addressed and who will take the floor. “The only thing that the law asks is that there is no talk of a particular project, such as the Seafood Market,” he specified.
“We are asking for a resignation (of Mayor José Luis Fábrega) because they do not comply with the Decentralization Law, there are no citizen consultations, there are no public hearings and there are no participatory budgets,” he concluded.
