Luis Pinedo on auditing local governments: ‘We want a true audit in which we know how our money has been used’

The political activist of the Citizen Consultation movement and candidate for Mayor of Panama, Luis Pinedo, referred this Thursday to the beginning of the audits by the Comptroller General of the Republic to local governments.

“What we would like to see is a true audit, an oversight, not only in the current government, but for that representative and mayor to show the books he inherited, the accounts he inherited, so that we know how our money has been used” , said.

He pointed out that it is known that in the past period the names of deputies were made public, some who are no longer deputies and others who were not re-elected, who used community boards to divert funds.

“The audits should not only be every year or 6 months, they are constant, daily and permanent, but we citizens have the right to carry out a social audit, it is in our Law,” he said.
