Luis Linares Zapata: The street and the media

Both the street and the media will be two of the clamps that will play a starring role in attracting the sympathy of the electorate in the upcoming elections. Other defining issues will be missing, but these two will be key. In both it is already disputed with fury and skill. There will be no point of calm from now on. This has been marked by the rivalry between the options: brown and the combined opposition. One thing, however, is notable at the moment: the scant participation of opposition political parties. It seems that what happens does not concern them. They are far from marking, with at least one solitary proposal, idea or rudeness, even if their operational capacity is impertinent. They have been unable to interfere in this that touches them fully.

For now, a good part of the country’s citizens have taken the exit from the competition. His place is now well established. Both on the street and in the media, his presence is remarkable. The thousands of demonstrators who filled the squares of the country testify to this both in his personal version and in opposition disposition. In the media they have been solidifying their positions and routes with undeniable success. They have done it to undermine some of the government’s best plans and to induce a narrative among the population that will serve as a cover and weapon of attack in the future. Both in the motivations to leave their homes and to make themselves heard in allegations and messages, his informative base is notorious and uniform. They have started from supposing the INE untouchable and holding opposite ideas, to political reform, first, and secondly. plan B, later, with otherwise weak foundations. In truth, they have been, in almost all of the reasoning heard, written or raised over the shouting, with false support, hearsay, without coherent data. And, most notably, leveraged on implausible projections and where catastrophes illuminate the consequences.

Hearing or reading Mrs. Dresser’s pronouncements on the plan B famous is something that should alert anyone with any insight or information. This lady introduces a series of future scenarios each more terrible in case such plan B not be declared unconstitutional. She and her positions can be exposed, and used, as a model adopted by the other opponents. This is how they have been heard and read on numerous occasions. Her predictions range from the disappearance of the INE to the destruction of democracy, passing, of course, through innumerable phantasmagorical scenarios: the nullity of the vote, the carries, violated polls, massive fraud, vote buying or carousels and the outright robbery or ballot box stuffing. All that past universe of traps has been banished by the determined influence of society and not, as claimed, by the INE or before the IFE. Now such institutions are presumed to belong to the liberal opposition, although, in truth, they were forced by the beating and perseverance of the organized groups of the left, victims of many of these electoral ills.

Democratic life in the country existed –during those dark times– in an incipient and rudimentary form, but it survived valid and even promising. The prognosis of his settlement if the INE is perfected is a simple hoax. What he plan B intended is simply to introduce budgetary rationality. Eliminate expenses that are insulting, improper. The cost of maintaining that elephant costs, per year, about 50 billion pesos in its current form. Submitting it to an exhaustive revision does not imply its annihilation, but rather giving it a better appearance, severity and substance. The scream that announces the firing of 85 percent of its 17,000 workers is a complete falsehood. Yes, there will be separations of surplus personnel, but they will be much less, perhaps 1,500 professional service officials. The useful credentials, already known, are not part of the reforming purpose, they will continue their course and will not disappear. Nor does it imply the handling of the electoral results by the government, –qualified, without a doubt, as a manipulative cheat– as has been led to believe. The 2024 elections will be held the same or better than the past ones despite the shouting and unhealthy fantasies of Mrs. Dresser and others. The President will not impose his winning will on the citizen and, even less, he will anoint himself as a tyrant, as they advance there and there. The history of our democratic work, a central piece in the model of change, will continue to advance for the good of the country.
