Luis Eduardo Martínez explained that he made the decision to propose his name to the candidacy of that AD division after consulting hundreds of people and reviewing opinion studies that give him a “clear picture” of the current situation of the party.
The deputy of the National Assembly elected in December 2020 and member of the faction of the Acción Democrárica party that he leads Bernabe Gutierrezto whom the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) delivered the party card, announced his candidacy as a presidential candidate within that political organization ahead of the 2024 elections.
Martínez, according to a press release, explained that he made the decision to propose his name to the candidacy of that AD division after consulting hundreds of people and reviewing opinion studies that give him a “clear picture” of the current situation of the party.
«I have been a member of AD since I was very young, not a single day of my existence have I strayed from the Acciondemocratista precepts, I strictly identify with the ideals that the founders upheld and I believe that by giving myself to the bottom I can, together with our thousands of militants and leaders at all levels, make the People’s Party a fundamental reference point in Venezuelan political life and a co-protagonist in the process of changes that our beloved country demands”, reads the document that he delivered to the board of directors of the political organization.

Martínez estimates having the support of his fellow party members and militants, as well as the general public, to be able to achieve victories for the white awning at the polls and give the country the change that various sectors aspire to.
He stressed that, once the letter was delivered to the board of directors of that AD, he began a series of visits and activities throughout Venezuela to promote the candidacy within the white tent.
In the middle of April 2023Bernabé Gutiérrez assured that, before a possible advance of presidential elections, the president Nicolás Maduro “will be defeated with the white vote.”
“You will be defeated with the white vote of a people, who are reunited around their historic white card and who are returning to the houses of Acción Democrática, and who will take back to Miraflores, a humble man, with government experience, with the conviction of social power, without hatred or resentment, set to rescue peace, breadth, progress, a healthy economy and social well-being, because as our people say, with AD you live better”, he asserted on that occasion.
