History records that Luis Alberto de Herrera joined the Spanish phalanx (Francoism).
In 1975, when the Spanish dictator Francisco Franco passed away – whom he praised in his book “Trasfoguero” (1963) – Lacalle performed the fascist salute and excitedly sang the hymn “Cara al sol” by the Spanish phalanx at the Spanish embassy.
Next, a passage from the book “Trasfoguero” where Lacalle Herrera praises the Spanish dictator Francisco Franco who with the support of Nazism (Hitler) and fascism (Mussolini) unleashed a civil war that cost more than 600 thousand lives.
Something very special
Taken from the book: “Trasfoguero” by Luis Alberto Lacalle, published in 1962 by the Donostia Graphic Workshops. In the one under the title “The boss”, it reads: “Seeing him, for us who had heard so much about him from our own, was something very special. With a little daring and a lot of hope, we had requested the corresponding audience. Granted this, it seemed that the indicated day would never arrive, until we were finally entering El Pardo. We were late to see the famous Moorish guard who fascinated us as boys with a thousand and one stories. Correct guards in a fairly ordinary uniform took their place. Lounges and more lounges interviewed in passing. A brief wait with the Marquis of Casa de Loja, and it did not take long for the office doors to open where, standing and with an impenetrable gaze, Francisco Franco Bahamonde, head of the Spanish State, waited, in a few letters “the leader,” the name by which he always appointed him at home. Of medium height, dressed in military simplicity and elegance. His uniform with a Captain General’s red band at the waist and a single decoration on his chest. Only one, but enough to outshine all of the world: the Laureate, the survivors, the almost immortal! Few men have been brought and carried in the world’s commentary. Few men have gravitated so much on the world scene. Few have had such a large part in Providence’s plans. In life, in history like all human things, the figure is man. Ideas, theories, and plans are reduced to unity made in the image and likeness of God. The Boss, the Conductor, the Caudillo, eternal in time, are the sublimation of man without losing their essential character of being alive and real. He who does not conceive or does not understand the figure of a boss, lacks a primary element to judge the facts. The Latino race is generous in huge figures. In figures that without losing the dimension of mortals, leave their mark over time in a particularly imperishable way. Before meeting Franco, we already knew a Boss. Ours yesterday, today, and forever. The leader of Spain was the second ”.
He also expresses: “It was enough for his light eyes to look deeply for us to understand him. He spoke, more than he spoke, he exposed. Forty-five extraordinary and wonderful minutes. Not a comma of what was said has been erased from memory. The subject: Spain. West, the work of 23 years, the future. A once in a lifetime morning. That is why I wanted his memory to be recorded on these pages. And because when we met this man, we renewed the loyalty and admiration of three generations of people of our blood ”.
