Dajabón.– President Luis Abinader developed an intense work agenda this Sunday in the province of Dajabón, where he inaugurated health, education, agriculture, sports and technical training works, after touring the border fence with Haiti alongside the elected president of Chile, José Antonio Kast.
Matías Ramón Mella Hospital Delivery
The president inaugurated the Matías Ramón Mella Provincial Hospitala modern health infrastructure that reinforces the medical care in the border area and replaces the province’s old health center.
The hospital has 102 bedsareas of Emergency, Intensive Care (ICU), mental health, maternity, diagnostic images, laboratory, pharmacy and one hemodialysis unita key service that will avoid transfers of patients to other provinces.
The work was executed by Ministry of Housing and Buildings (MIVED)with an investment greater than RD$1,800 millionand will begin to operate gradually starting in February.
This February 16, medical consultations and imaging and laboratory services will begin, while the Emergency, hospitalization, operating room and ICU areas are scheduled to begin operations on March 9. The rest of the services will be available from April.
School infrastructure
In matters of educationAbinader inaugurated the roofing of the court and the Initial Level classrooms of the Francisco Javier Ureña Canela Schoolwith an investment of RD$40.4 million.
The works include four classrooms, bathrooms, kitchens and a playgroundbenefiting more than one hundred students and improving the teaching conditions of the early childhood in this border province.

During the event, the vice minister of Teacher Accreditation and Certification of the Ministry of Education, Francisco D’ Óleo Ramírezrepresenting the Minister of Education, Luis Miguel De Camps, highlighted that these new facilities represent a significant step in strengthening the Initial Level and in the creation of decent school environments for early childhood.
Hydraulic works
The president also inaugurated hydraulic works that impact the agricultural production in Dajabónby allowing the irrigation of 20,220 tasks and benefit 324 producers.
The interventions, carried out by the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI)included the rehabilitation of the La Vigía irrigation canala intake work on the Dajabón riversystems dam pumping, agricultural roads and the station electrification.

Sports center and new sports works
As part of strengthening the sport and community lifeAbinader inaugurated the renovation of the Dajabón Sports Centerin addition to a volleyball court and one Club Houseworks that benefit the municipalities of Dajabón, Partido and Loma de Cabrera.
When pronouncing the central words, the minister Kelvin Cruz He explained that three actions were prioritized: the renovation of the indoor area, the construction of a volleyball court for girls and young people who did not have adequate space, and the construction of the clubhouse.
In that sense, he highlighted the growth of women’s volleyball in the municipality, with more than 300 girls practicing this discipline, and stated that with the support of the central government, answers are given to the needs of hundreds of athletes in the region.


The facilities were delivered along with a community volunteeringin charge of supervising the maintenance and proper use of sports spaces.
Monitoring of educational demands
During his agenda, the president held a meeting with young students from high schools, colleges, universities, ITLA and INFOTEPwhom he urged to prepare academically and technically to face the challenges of the labor market.
In the dialogue, the students raised demands related to school infrastructure, dining rooms, laboratories, student transportation and road improvementswhich the president assured will be followed up.

400 scholarships and strengthening of higher education on the border announced
The day concluded with the announcement of 400 student scholarshipsduring the launch of the Dajabón Extension of the Institute of Higher Specialized Studies Loyola (IEESL) and the inauguration of ITESIL workshops and laboratories.
The president reiterated the Government’s support for the technical and higher education on the borderas well as academic and productive expansion projects in the region.
