SANTO DOMINGO. President Luis Abinader said on Monday that he has not bought even half a gallon of oil from Venezuela since he became president of the Republic.
The president made these statements during the LA Semanal press conference, in response to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Justice and Peace of Venezuela, Diosdado Cabello, who stated that the Dominican government owes that country 350 million dollars for the purchase of oil and demanded that it be paid.
Although the president Luis Abinader He denied having bought oil from Venezuela, he did not confirm the debt of 350 million dollars, nor did he deny it, despite being questioned several times on this matter.

“We have not bought half a gallon of oil from Venezuela since I became president,” the president emphasized in LA Semanal con la Prensa, when answering questions from journalists.
In this regard, the president of the Dominican Petroleum Refinery (Refidomsa), Leonardo Aguilera, said that the last import of crude oil from Venezuela was made on December 12, 2015.
He also explained that the last import from Venezuela was of soft products, such as diesel, and it took place on February 20, 2017, three years before President Luis Abinader assumed power.
