The president Luis Abinader ordered by decree the creation of a special commission to coordinate the administrative and legal processes related to the merger of the ministries of Education (Minerd) and Higher Education, Science and Technology (Mescyt).
With decree number 580-24, the president gave a period of six monthsfrom the issuance of the twoposition, so that the merger of these entities is completed.

This commission will be made up of the education ministerÁngel Hernández; he minister of higher educationFranklin García Fermín; he Minister of Public AdministrationSigmund Freund; the comitted for State ReformsDarío Castillo Lugo; he president of the Association of Higher InstitutesJosé Ramón Brito, and the president of the Dominican Association of UniversitiesWady Ramírez Mañón.
Also, there will be the president of the Association of Private UniversitiesJosé Alejandro Aybar; the president of the Dominican Association of Rectors; Sergio de la Cruz; María Altagracia López, Radhamés Leonidas Mejía, Miguel José Escala and José Hazim Torres.
On September 16, Abinader Abinaderexplained that, after months of studies, consultations, dialogue and evaluationthe unification of ministries and other state institutionshave the objective of continuing the restructuring and rationalization of the public administration.
This proposal also seeks eliminate duplications in public institutions, to be more efficient, coherent and be more aligned with the government priorities.
The head of state He noted that the majority of the proposals will go to the National Congress to be approved, but from an economic point of view “the necessary savings can be made.”
At the same time, he recalled the first unifications and deletions carried out during his mandate, citing the merger of the Oisoe and the INVI(today Ministry of Housing and Buildings), the CEA and the Cordeand the elimination of Office of the First Lady and Procomunidad.
