Luis Abinader calls to reaffirm values and reject ambition

Santo Domingo.-President Luis Abinader urged the population to reaffirm the values of respect, honesty and humility, when delivering a Christmas message, in a context marked by his recent confession of feeling betrayed by the corruption scandal detected in the National Health Insurance (Senasa).

During his speech with his wife, the first lady Raquel Arbaje, the president reflected on the dangers of ambition, emphasizing that the Christmas celebration should resemble the simple and silent night on which Jesus was born, far from ostentation and grandeur, warning that the excessive love for wealth leads down paths that lead away from justice, in a clear allusion to the need to act ethically and responsibly, especially from the exercise of power.

Likewise, he stressed that Christmas should be a time of reflection on unity and solidarity, remembering that these values are learned within the home and should guide the public and private lives of citizens.

“It is a time to reaffirm the values that we learned in our homes: respect, honesty and humility,” he expressed.

Likewise, the ruler invited Dominicans to share “the love of their families, the embrace of true friends and the faith that sustains us,” and stressed that “happiness is not born from having, but from loving; not from excess, but from the peace that lives in the heart.”

Abinader addressed not only in his capacity as ruler, but as a believing citizen, inviting people to share family love, strengthen ties of friendship and maintain faith as support in difficult times.

For her part, Raquel Arbaje highlighted the importance of solidarity and commitment to the most vulnerable, reaffirming the call to live a Christmas focused on fundamental values.

“I am here not only as your life partner, but as an ally in the cause of serving and positively transforming our nation,” said the first lady, while calling on Dominicans to look at each other sincerely, to learn, to demand and to rediscover the best of themselves as human beings and as a country.
