A study by the Center for Educational Research of Panama and American University, showed that teachers are given little continuous professional development of a subject, and the training is very short and repetitive.
In the same sense, the former Minister of Education, Lucy Molinar, considered that the educational system should be far from politics because “decisions are not made based on what is convenient, but based on who is convenient.”
Molinar stressed that in particular, she does not like the PISA test, but the Unesco test, since it provides more tools to realize what students fail and how the teacher can be reinforced.
“Continuous training in the specialty has to be given in the issues that affect the student’s training and that decision is made based on reality and not cronyism,” he said.
The former official commented that she was amused by the creation of the intersectoral table that will address the educational issue. “Those who are there know about this, they saw it for years and they never opposed it, because while they give them what they ask for, they make their trips and their per diems, they don’t see anything wrong with the system. We are living a moment of so much inconsistency and so much opportunism that it hurts a lot,” he said.
