Lucía Etcheverry, future Minister of Transportation and Public Works, said Tuesday that the elected government considers transportation as one of its main priorities. In a meeting with the Uruguayan Transport Chamber, the minister stressed the importance of establishing “the premises” for the coming years and strengthening ties with the different actors in the sector.
Etcheverry stressed that improving the metropolitan transport system will be one of the goals of President Yamandú Orsi, although he clarified that the bet goes beyond the capital. “It is a key moment where all actors seek to boost a more efficient, quality system that reduces waiting times and provides adequate service to users,” he said.
The minister also mentioned the need to move towards intermodality in transport, with the participation of all involved in the process. In addition, he pointed out that the train is an option that is under evaluation as part of the future strategy.
