‘Lucho’ to ‘Evo’: “you have to know when you have to hang up your horns, like in football”

The renewal and the candidacies were the two axes addressed by the president, Luis Arce, regarding the internal conflicts that the MAS has and the frictions that exist between radicals and renovators. The Head of State took advantage of the interview to send a subtle message to the president of the MAS and graphed the withdrawal of politics with soccer.

“Every political party is subject to changes, to modifications, there is no static in politics, what is happening with the Movement for Socialism is that the process continues, we will go down in history and you have to know when you already hang the pieces, like in footballYou have to know how to retire,” said President Arce when asked if the current MAS leadership has completed its political cycle.

Since 2021 the masistas have divided into two factionsthose who remain loyal to Evo Morales, called ‘radicals’ or ‘evistas’ and those who follow the current government, known as ‘renovadores’ or ‘arcistas’, both blocks accuse themselves of being corrupt and sold out to the right, and this confrontation seems to have no end.

Arce attributed these struggles to a desire mediatedr of the protagonists who try to appear in the media without measuring what they are declaring and the effect that they can produce internally. In this context, he said that he and the government that he leads are committed to managing and thus showing the work that the MAS will have going forward.

The radicals have already proclaimed Evo Morales as the “official” MAS candidate and even launched their own campaign; while the arcist wing also assured that the Luis Arce-David Choquehuanca pairing will repeat the formula in 2025, which also led to an internal conflagration.

For the president, there are MAS cadres that can take control of the party and he said that those who hold office or a political leadership must know how to make way for these cadres. “I see many young people, they also want their opportunity to be in the ministries, to be ministers, to govern, I think you have to give them the right step, you have to know how to withdraw at the time”, launched the first president.
