Low temperatures affect municipalities of Potosí and Chuquisaca

Municipalities of Potosí and Chuquisaca have been affected by the decrease in temperatures over the weekend. In the first department they reported snowfall, rains and hailstones; While in the department of Chuquisaca, hailstorms were reported that affected vegetable crops in five communities.

In Potosí

“Nevada was recorded in several regions and in Southeast Potosino, especially in San Pablo de Lípez, this morning there was an intense snowfall,” said Secretary of Productive Development of the Potosí Governorate, Genaro Méndez, at a press conference.

On Sunday were snowfall in Colquechaca, Uncía, Atocha, Uyuni, in the 16th district of Potosí and in the Cerro Rico and other high peaks. Méndez also pointed out that in the Potosino territory rainfall was reported, in some regions with greater intensity. “In the north of the department there was a fall of heavy rains, such as Colquechaca, San Pedro and Arampampa“, said.

Meanwhile, in the municipality of Ckochas henizo fell in the last hours, which affected three communities. At present, the Risk Management Unit makes evaluations to establish the magnitude of damage, especially vegetable crops. He also reported that for this week the low temperatures are expected to persist.

In the city of Potosí and the central region of the department, temperatures are forecast between 1 and 2 degrees below zero. In the Southwest Potosino temperatures between 5 and 6 degrees below zero are planned.

In Chuquisaca

The mayor of Poroma, Felipe Mamani, informed that a 25 -minute hailstorm affected vegetable crops of at least five communities. “He has won in five communities with planting of vegetables and fruits,” he explained.

Potato, corn, peas, beans, carrot, lettuce and peamin and apple seedlings were damaged by hail.

The municipal government sent technical personnel to the affected communities for an evaluation of the damage and provide the corresponding help and manage support before the Chuquisaca Government. Mamani expressed concern about the climatic crisis that causes weather events that affect agricultural production in the region.

At the end of August, a hailstorm also fell in Poroma that affected crops in the Yanani and Pangurace sectors.
