The president of the Federation of Chambers of Commerce of the Republic of Panama (Fedecamaras), Alicia Jiménez, assured that the economic losses that have occurred in Panama during the last three weeks reach $500 million.
Jiménez maintained that it is not possible for the country to be held hostage by a few people who do not allow free transit.
He stressed that, even with the covid-19 pandemic, free transit was not prevented, and that on this occasion up to 100,000 medical consultations have been lost.
A total of 17 agricultural producers, agribusiness unions and related organizations asked the government to put an end to the blockades on the streets and avenues so that the production of fresh food, supplies and raw materials for agribusiness reach the points of destiny.

“This situation is unbearable for food producers, since it is causing serious and substantial losses and damages to production and national producers, quantified at $131 million during the protest period,” they say in the statement.
Executive and social leaders negotiate to end the protests in Panama
This Wednesday, July 20, representatives of the Panamanian government and social organizations began a meeting to negotiate an end to the protests.
For two weeks there have been demonstrations against the increase in the prices of goods and services and fuel.
Last Sunday, the Executive promised to reduce the price of fuel, but this did not mean that the protests had ended.
