During the afternoon of this Thursday, a freight train -a locomotive and five wagons- derailed in the commune of Máfil, Los Ríos region.
The train belongs to the Ferrocarril del Pacífico (Fepasa) company and was heading north to the commune of La Unión. After the event, the Public Ministry described the event as an attack.
From the Los Ríos Regional Prosecutor’s Office, spokesman Eric Aguayo confirmed an ongoing investigation into the derailment, indicating that based on the preliminary records of the Carabineros, the accident was caused by the cutting of a rail.
Adding that the Special Police Investigations Brigade of the PDI and the Criminalistics Laboratory are in charge of investigating what happened, to determine if it was intentional or not.
