Los Angeles Zoo protested with a dead lion outside La Moneda

This Friday morning a group of four people appeared at the front of La Moneda with a dead lion and a protest canvas against the Government. The banner stated that “the government kills animals. No more political weepers at SAG.”

The subjects were representatives of the Los Angeles Zoo, who peacefully charged that the SAG would have forced them to sedate animals for a procedure. After that the animal, called “Zeus”, died in Los Angeles, being transferred to Santiago to be exhibited.

The zoo owner explained to the press that “’Zeus’, who is one of our first lions, passed away. Yesterday (Thursday) we received a resolution on November 30 where the SAG, Agricultural and Livestock Service, obliges us to sedate all our animals that require it to read their identification chip, because according to them, they said that there were problems with traceability.”

“There was no problem with the traceability of lions because we have not entered or removed African lions of these characteristics from our enclosure, but they still forced us,” added the representative.

According to Carabineros, the people left the elevator on Morandé street with the animal wrapped in a blanket. For this reason, the events forced officials from the First Police Station to intervene, who assured that “we do not know what condition the lion is in, nor do we know if it can harm health. It is an issue that specialized personnel have to investigate, starting with the animal’s expertise.”

On the other hand, the protesters revealed that veterinarians warned about the risk of sedating the animals, but the supervisory body did not consider it. “In the SAG there are no competent professionals, but rather there are members of political parties. Today, the person who runs that institution is not a veterinarian, he is not an agronomist, “the representative concluded.
