Los Angeles: Cubans will hold a rally for the island’s political prisoners

MIAMI, United States. – The Cuban Patriotic Board of Los Angeles and the citizen platform Cuba Decide convene a rally for the political prisoners of the Island, Nicaragua and Venezuela in that US city during the celebration of the IX Summit of the Americas.

According to Tania Carmenate, the vice president of the Patriotic Board, the Cubans will hang posters with photos of the political prisoners, as well as a seven-foot one with the image of Oswaldo Paya.

Among other activities, the documentary “The truth of the murder of Oswaldo Payá” dedicated to the life and work of the Cuban opponent will be screened.

Oswaldo Payá and Harold Cepero died on July 22, 2012 after the car in which they were traveling to Granma province crashed.

The accident vehicle was driven by the Spaniard Ángel Carromero, leader of the New Generations youth organization of the Popular Party (PP) of Madrid and advisor to the Municipal Board of Moratalaz of the Madrid City Council. Carromero was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in Payá’s death.

Based on the accounts of protagonists and witnesses and other evidence, both his widow, Ofelia Acevedo, and his daughter, Rosa María, maintain that such an accident did not exist, but that it was a premeditated murder orchestrated by the Cuban State Security.

The Cuban Regime Stays Out of the Los Angeles Summit

Officials of the United States Government have indicated to various media outlets that the regimes of Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela have been banned from the Summit of the Americas for not respecting the human rights of their citizens.

However, in recent days the possibility of inviting a representative from Havana, who in no case would be the ruler, has been considered. Miguel Diaz-Canel nor the foreign minister of the Island, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla.
