The University of the Andes officially ruled on the tragic death of Jaime Esteban Moreno Jaramillostudent of Systems and Computing Engineeringwhose death was known in the last hours. In a public statement, the institution expressed its deep regret over the incident and extended a message of condolences to the young man’s family, friends, teachers and colleagues.

Moreno Jaramillo died in Bogotá under strange circumstances in the early hours of October 31 after being brutally attacked during a Halloween party outside a bar. The young man was found unconscious on a public road and taken to the Chapinero Hospital and later transferred to the Simón Bolívar Hospital, where he died hours later due to the severe head trauma suffered. The authorities confirmed the capture of three people, including two foreign women and a Colombian man, allegedly involved in the attack.
“We deeply regret the death of Jaime Esteban Moreno,” begins the statement, in which the university reveals the consternation that this fact has caused in its academic community. The message, signed institutionally, highlights the pain experienced by those who shared with the student, remembering his time at the university and his commitment to the degree he was pursuing.

The institution also highlighted that it has activated all its support and care protocols to provide emotional and psychological support to people close to the victim, barely 20 years old. “Our main commitment is the care and well-being of our community and our students,” says the statement, alluding to the response plan that the university implements in emergency situations or deaths of active members.
Likewise, Los Andes assured that it is in full willingness to collaborate with the authorities in the investigation process, in order to contribute to clarifying the circumstances surrounding the young man’s death. The case, which involves three captured people, is being handled by the judicial authorities of Bogotá.
In its message, the university also called for prudence and respect for the pain of Jaime Esteban’s family, emphasizing that this is a moment of mourning that deeply affects the entire academic community. The statement invites solidarity and collective support as a sign of unity in the midst of tragedy.
