Los Alcarrizos cable car advances

With more than 70 percent completion, the Cable car of Los Alcarrizos The final section of the work began, which at the end of the year will increase the total number of kilometers of the Integrated System of Transportation of Santo Domingo formed by the Metro and Cable Car of Santo Domingo.

Work is currently under way to install the cable that will move the 163 cabins with the capacity to transport 4,500 people per hour at a speed of 7 meters per second, making this monocable system one of the most modern in this mode of transport. transportation urban.

To install the final cable, which is 60 centimeters, several processes must be completed with cables of lesser thickness using a special drone and the final one will then be placed, to which the cabins are attached.

Work is being done on the first section of the cable that starts at station 1 of The Alcarrizos to 3, located in Puente Blanco. This process will end at the end of October and it is expected that the second will cover from Puente Blanco to Los Americanos.

The second section will be installed in the first fortnight of November, having completed this part of the process, to then go on to upload the cabins to the cable and start the testing process.

Before starting the cable assembly process, the Executing Unit for the Readjustment of Neighborhoods and Surroundings (CITY), through its social team, held an information day with all the families through which the cable will pass in order to answer their concerns and clear up any doubts in this regard.

Julio Ramírez, in charge of the supervision of the Santo Domingo Cable Car Line 2, reported that the project meets the schedule that had been proposed.

“This process is the fourth time it has been done in the country, on Line 1 it was done three times successfully, so we have enough experience to do that and give people security of the security protocols,” he said.

The system is made up of four stations and a length of 4.20 meters; an automatic cabin garage, 25 bollards, 163 cabins, consists of a model with detachable clamps and will have a capacity of 4,500 passengers per hour in each direction.

Unlike the first line, the Cable car of Los Alcarrizos will not require a transfer because, through an automated system, people who get into a cabin in The Alcarrizos You can get there to Los Americanos. In the First Line you have to make a transfer in Sabana Perdida to be able to continue to Charles de Gaulle.

Another difference is that Line 1 has the capacity to transport 6,000 people per hour and Line 1 The Alcarrizos 9,000 in cabins of 12 people, while those of 1 have capacity for 10 passengers.

“It has a slightly different electronic and mechanical configuration, but very similar at the same time, for example, a motor with a double groove pulley, right now this cable car is one of the most important systems and perhaps the first urban one that moves seven meters per second”, Ramirez said.

Currently, work is being done on the four cable car stations, but the most advanced are station 1, at the entrance to The Alcarrizoswhich already has its garage for the cabins and the wiring, ticket office, glass installation, painting and other aspects are installed, while the other outpost is Los Americanos, which is smaller than the previous one, but is also in advanced condition similar to 1.

The other two stations are thus intermediate The Grapefruit and White Bridge that are in the civil work phase. According to Julio Ramírez and to all the land where the four stations go, the bollards were acquired by consensus and it is only expected to close business in one case that this week would be solved.

“We have not used force at all, everything is negotiated, that process is going in a harmonious way,” Ramírez explained.

The integrated system, Metro and Cable Cars will have a total of 65 kilometers that includes 14.5 kilometers of line 1 and 2 will have 41.3 kilometers, the current 34 plus line 2-C that will have 7.3 kilometers. To this is added 9.20 kilometers in the cable cars: 5 of the current line 1 and 4.20 of the 2 or The Alcarrizos.
