The Ministry of Health (Minsa) and the Social Health Insurance (Essalud) reported on the health status of the 16 people who were injured after a plane crash that occurred yesterday morning when a plane from the Saeta airline suffered an oversight at the aerodrome from the San Antonio de El Estrecho district, Putumayo province, when preparing to take off for Iquitos, Loreto region.
Regional Hospital of Loreto del Minsa
The Minister of Health, Jorge López Peña, traveled to the city of Iquitos, and spoke with several of the patients during his visit to the Regional Hospital of Loreto “Felipe Santiago Arriola Iglesias”where they are being monitored nine of the injured, including a minor.
“From the Ministry of Health, together with Diresa Loreto, we are going to guarantee that all the expenses of the patients who are in this hospital are covered by the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS)”, maintained the minister.
López Peña also stated that the specialists will be attentive to the evolution of the wounded so that, if required, they are transferred to the city of Lima.
Hospital III Iquitos of EsSalud
Subsequently, the head of the Minsa traveled to the Hospital III Iquitos of Essaludwhere they were seven other patients, of whom six remain in stable condition and one in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Dr. Guillermo Angulo Arévalo, manager of the Loreto Assistance Network, together with the Minister of Health, Jorge López Peña, visited each of the internees that are in stable condition and receiving medical treatment in a timely manner.
Angulo Arevalo stated that four patients are hospitalized in the Special Care Unit (SCU), two in the trauma-shock area and one in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) from the Emergency Service of the Hospital III Iquitos of the Social Security of Health in Loreto.
“From the moment we became aware of this accident, the professionals from CAP I San Antonio del Essalud immediately coordinated with Hospital III Iquitos for the transfer of the injured,” said Dr. Angulo.
The patients were treated in a specialized and timely manner at the hospital, where all the pertinent medical examinations were carried out and, to date, none of them require a transfer to Lima.
Medical equipment and medications
The Minister of Health, Jorge López Peña, traveled with the Deputy Minister of Public Health, Joel Candia Briceño, and a team of 11 health professionals from SAMU: two medical specialists in anesthesiology, four specialists in aeromedical evacuations and five specialists in nursing.
In addition, the General Directorate of Disaster Risk Management and National Health Defense (Digerd) sent approximately 250 kg. in medical supplies that will be donated and distributed to Loreto for the care of those injured in the plane crash, as well as for the oil spill in La Quebrada Cuninico, Urarinas district of the aforementioned region.
