Loreto: Criminals pose as passengers and steal a small plane

A gang of criminals pretended to be passengers and then hijacked and stole a Saeta plane. The incident occurred on the morning of Tuesday, July 23, in Yurimaguas, located in the Alto Amazonas region of Loreto.

According to initial reports, the aircraft was coming from San Lorenzo. In addition, three armed men forced the pilot to land at the Jeberos airfield, where they got the passengers and the pilot off. They then took the plane to an unknown destination.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications issued a statement regarding the incident involving the Saeta aircraft.

“The MTC has learned, through the owner of the Saeta company, of an incident that occurred with one of its aircraft, a Cessna 206 model, with registration OB1945. This occurred at approximately 10:11 am, while the aircraft was covering the San Lorenzo-Bellavista route, in the Loreto region,” reported.

The pilot made a stop at Jeberos airfield. The criminals then took the plane to an unknown destination.

“The passengers on board allegedly took control of the aircraft, forcing the pilot to descend and then proceeding to take off in an unknown direction towards the south of said town,” they detailed.

According to some witnesses, the criminals fired several shots into the air.
