Loreto: Chief of Senasa is killed by hitmen in boat

Manuel Sánchez Aurich, head of the National Agricultural Health Service (Senasa) of Santa Rosa Island, in the province of Ramón Castilla, Loreto region, was killed by hitmen while embarked on a boat to return to its town.

The crime occurred after being intercepted by strangers who were traveling in another vessel and who shot him several times.

According to police sources to RPP, Sánchez Aurich had left the port of Tabatinga, located on the border with Brazil, when he was attacked. The aggressors, after committing the crime, fled in a boat with an unknown direction, which has hindered its identification and capture.

The official, recognized for his work in the field of agrarian health in the area, served as Chief of Senasa on Santa Rosa Island, a community located in a strategic region for its proximity to Brazil.

So far, the authorities have not determined the mobile of the crime, although it is investigated whether the attack is related to their work or to possible conflicts in the area.

The remains of Sánchez Aurich will be transferred to the city of Iquitos in the next few hours, where their relatives can bury him.
