Senator Andrea Padilla, author of the initiative, has been one of the main drivers of this project, which aims to improve the quality of life of dogs in this sector.
Although sufficient votes were not achieved to completely prohibit the use of these animals in private security, the project establishes key standards for their well -being and promotes the progressive reduction of their use in non -essential specialties.
Key Project Measures
If approved in its last debate, Lorenzo law would guarantee:
- Caregivers with animal welfare training.
- Incentives for the development of innovative alternatives that replace the use of security dogs.
- Supervised feeding plan.
- Constant and complete veterinary supervision.
- Game and rest days in a space other than work.
- Prohibition of dog use in disease conditions.
- Sterilization programs to avoid reproduction without control.
- Retirement plans that guarantee a decent life for dogs after their service period.
A necessary advance in animal protection
The approval in third debate represents an important milestone for animal welfare in Colombia. While the use of private security dogs remains a reality, the implementation of these measures seeks to reduce the suffering of animals and guarantee their protection.
