The Vice President of the National Communications Entity (Enacom), Gustavo Lópezhighlighted this Friday the “importance” of carrying out the impeachment of the members of the Supreme Court of Justice, when evaluating that the country is “at a key moment in its history” in which the alternative between “democracy or corporations”.

“We are at a key moment in history. It is about deciding between democracy or corporations. Concentrated interests co-opted the Judiciary and we have regressed in terms of institutionality“López said this Friday morning in statements to AM750.

In this way, the official analyzed the letter that a group of businessmen sent to the impeachment committee of the Chamber of Deputies in which they request that the process of dismissal of the members of the High Court be left without effect.

“Faced with this situation, we must go out and discuss this situation. We have to do it as it is being done, with the Constitution in hand. The malfunctioning of justice also leaves other problems without remedy,” said the official, referring to actions of justice that in recent months favored telecommunications companies.

About the ICT decree

In particular, López referred to Decree 690, published in August 2020, which in the midst of a pandemic turned companies that sell information and communication technology (ICT) services into competing providers of essential and strategic public services.

This regulation placed under the jurisdiction of the National Communications Entity (Enacom) to guarantee the “effective availability” of the service provided by these companies.

“When we sanctioned Decree 690, we did it to avoid indiscriminate rate increases. Later that norm was ratified by Congress, but the Justice has delayed it for two years. The problem is in the Judiciary. Faced with these situations, we run out of remedies within the institutional framework because that power is at the service of the corporations,” he said.

On the other hand, the vice president of Enacom was consulted about the hate speech that is under analysis by the agency and assured that “there were already sanctions” in this regard.

“When some of the channels headlined: ‘Alleged attack against Cristina,’ it was analyzed that this alleged attack was used by virtue of the victim’s ideology. For this reason, these messages were framed as political discrimination,” he said.
