The president of MexicoPresident Andrés Manuel López Obrador reacted harshly to calls by several Republican legislators to send US troops into Mexican territory after the murder of two Americans in a border town.
“They have the arrogance to say that if we don’t fight crime in Mexico they will pass an initiative in Congress so that the United States armed forces intervene in our territory,” he said. “We will not allow it. And not only are we not going to allow it, we are denouncing it”.
He labeled as “politicking” the attempt of the Republican congressmen to “remove a political crack”; and he stressed that this is not President Biden’s position.
“It is vile politicking, but it is not to remain silent and say ignore them, it is that they want to look good with the ultra-conservatives of the United States, the anti-Mexicans. They seek to use us as a banner for their politicking, because we are going to respond so that the Mexicans there, Hispanics, only Mexicans are around 40 million, our countrymen know how they want to obtain political benefits with the aggression against Mexico, and that Mexico be You have to respect him, because Mexico is an independent, free, sovereign country, and if they did what they wanted before, it was because they were allowed to.”
And he continued: “What they want is to remove electoral politics, that is why the arrogance, the arrogance of saying that if we do not act against crime in Mexico they are going to promote an initiative, but we are going to defend our sovereignty. So, if they continue to offend Mexico, we are going to continue denouncing them and we are going to ask our countrymen not to vote for them.”
“And I am sure that not only Mexicans and also from other Latin American countries that are in the United States, but even the Americans themselves will be in favor of us, because that is not the way: the way of threats, of submission, that of invasion. “On Monday, a meeting will be held in Washington, which (Foreign Minister) Marcelo Ebrard will preside over with all the Mexican consuls in the United States, to report on what we are doing in support of the United States so that they do not the fentanyl arrives.
