The president of Mexico, Andres Manuel Lopez Obradorand the American tycoon Elon Musk will speak by phone to address the arrival of the electric car company Tesla to the countrywhere it is intended to install an industrial plant.
This was confirmed to the media this Friday by the Mexican Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, after meeting with the Business Coordinating Council (CCE).
“There’s going to be a call from Elon Musk and the president of the Republicand now (soon) I will confirm the exact date,” he said when asked about the Tesla’s arrival in Mexicoand assured that this afternoon he would confirm the date of the meeting.
However, he affirmed that “very soon” there will be confirmation that the US company will establish itself in the country, although he did not want to say in what state.
“I would not want to give that information, in that call that issue will be discussed and then we will know,” he said.
Ebrard added that the plant that possibly Tesla will install in Mexico is “very close” to the Government’s priorities in terms of “electromobility«.

“They have chosen Mexico to increase their presence and increase it in the coming years, it is very good news,” he continued.
Last Wednesday, the governor of the northern state of Nuevo Leon, samuel garciaannounced that in the coming days the installation of the Tesla plant in the region could be announced and that “there is no rebatinga (lawsuit)” with other places in the country to accommodate Musk’s company.
Among other places, in recent weeks there has been speculation about the possibility of the plant being installed in the central state of Gentlemanin the vicinity of Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA), the priority work of Lopez Obrador for the Mexican capital.
“They (Tesla) are thinking about an ecosystem. His idea is not ‘we are going to install a plant’, but rather ‘in what states are those who supply us?, what types of services are we going to need, logistical and of another type?, what things can we produce in Mexico?’ ”, raised Ebrard, who aspires to the presidency in the next elections of 2024.
In addition, he asserted that after meeting with Rohan PatelTesla’s director of Business Development, expressed the company’s interest in participating in the so-called Plan Sonora, launched by López workshop and focused on promoting solar energy and lithium extraction in that northern state.
“They produce photovoltaic cellsbecause they can also visualize that as another participation of theirs in that ecosystem that is also being created in Mexico”, stressed the secretary of External relationships.
