Businessman Juan Carlos Lopez Mena -owner of Buquebus- said this Tuesday at a press conference that maintains its proposal to install a new passenger terminal in the port of Montevideo or in another place determined by the Municipality of Montevideo.
He anticipated that will not participate in the tender that the government plans to launch to install a passenger and cruise ship terminal in the Mauá Dam because there are neighbors who do not support this initiative and he considered it unlikely that it would advance because one of the private companies that promoted the initiative “withdrew”.
López Mena participated this Tuesday as a speaker at a Rotary Club Montevideo lunch. After his dissertation, the businessman declared to the press that his initiative to build a new terminal is to build it where the current terminal is located —in the port of Montevideo— and improve part of the Old City that is abandoned, or in another place that has the Municipality of Montevideo.
“In the port of Montevideo or in Punta Carretas or wherever,” he said, according to Telemundo.
López Mena announced that the proposal for the new terminal will be formally presented to the commune next week and estimated that it will require an investment of US$10 million.
