Castro had been detained in Venezuela since June of this year, accused of terrorism. The French citizen arrived in his country this Sunday afternoon aboard a plane that landed at Orly airport, near Paris. In a message on his X account, Macron wrote: “Camilo Castro is free. “I share the relief of his loved ones and I thank all those who have worked for his release.”
“France sometimes advances without making noise, but always with determination and cold blood,” said the French head of state, without giving more details about the conditions under which his release from prison occurred or the nature of the intervention.
The French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noel Barrot, noted in another message on X that Camilo Castro is “safe” on a plane that takes him to France, where he will be able to reunite with his family “in a few hours.”
Barrot indicated that “it is the honor of our diplomacy to have gotten him released from prison.” He assured that “there has been no compensation” for the release of the French citizen and rejected the allegations that circulated that he was accused of terrorism.
