MIAMI, United States. – Last Friday, a MetroLink vehicle, operated by Miami-Dade County, caused a stir for displaying a message praising Cuban dictators Fidel and Raul Castro.
The illuminated sign displayed the message “Long live Fidel and Raúl”, as can be seen in the video posted on the social network TikTok by user yan_miami.fl (identified as Dayán Ramírez).
According to the report of the local channel Telemundo 51which reported the news, the incident occurred at the intersection of 8th Street NW and 49th Street, and was captured on video by several drivers.
The incident also prompted an immediate reaction from county residents. Idael Díaz, one of those affected, told Telemundo 51 that she had contacted the Department of Transportation to file a formal complaint because she could not allow “such a message to circulate on the streets of Miami.”
“The first thing I thought was that the driver [chofer] the bus had made that decision to place that message,” he said.
However, according to Díaz’s account, the official from the Department of Transit who answered his call told him that they were “aware of the situation” and that “the phone had been hacked.” vendor [proveedor de servicios] that handles that type of screen.”
Telemundo 51 said it had also contacted the Miami-Dade Transit Department, which said it would issue a statement on the matter.
The MetroLink service, a mobility option that connects residents to key destinations such as the Miami International Airport and Miami Beach, is free and uses small vehicles to improve accessibility in areas with limited transportation. It was one of these vehicles that displayed the controversial message, prompting an investigation by the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation.
