Madrid Spain.- The blackouts affected Cubans again this week. As indicated by the Electric Union of Cuba, during the last few days there have been new breakdowns in the electrical system.
According to one informative note of the Popular Government of the Provincial Power in Matanzas, in this province two blocks were affected. The entity pointed out that the situation should improve during the night of this Thursday because generating plants that were outside the national electricity system would be incorporated.
However, user complaints on social networks show that the effects continue.
The words of a user identified as Doña Yeya reflect that for her the situation is unsustainable: “Today there were seven hours without light on the beach. What little we have has been wasted. Seven hours without light. Everything is wrong and nobody cares. There are no responsible. No one gives an explanation.”
“Blackouts and more blackouts. How long will this Cuban nightmare last? This island is hell,” said Jorge Alejandro.
For her part, Yanara Dieppa Llanes pointed out: “And in Varadero the Tourism Fair is at full throttle. Today we are already going through two blackouts in my area.”
In the capital of the country, the interruptions of the electrical service are due to maintenance works, as indicated through Facebook the Electric Union of Havana.
The East of Cuba suffers a similar situation
In the province of Guantanamo announced affectations from May 5 to 8, with blackouts of 4 hours.
While in Santiago de Cuba this Thursday 70 MW were affected, according to the authoritiesdue “to the unforeseen departure of unit 1 of the Felton Thermoelectric Power Plant, together with other generating units that are undergoing maintenance.”
“Every two months the same excuse that a breakdown is already boring,” criticized user Lázaro Paz Ramos in the publication of the Santiago de Cuba Electric Company.
“For some time now we have had a large deficit per generation, when it is not one thing, it is another. Anyway, this is horrible. Organize the repairs to see if we don’t have so many unforeseen breakages”, said Leidia Esperanza Mesa.
While Ángel Antonio Remesal denounced: “The thermoelectric plants are arranged for the 1st. May and on the 3rd they break again”.
Last April, blackouts were also frequent in Cuba. The Government stated that the interruptions were mainly due to the service exit of the Antonio Guiteras de Matanzas Thermoelectric Power Plant, the largest generator in Cuba.
The blackouts on the Island were among the main triggers of the anti-government demonstrations on July 11, 2021.
