The battle this Sunday between the French Sébastien Loeb and the Spanish Carlos Sainz It ended with a victory for the Alsatian, who won the highly contested eighth stage of the 2023 Dakar Rally, the day before the rest day.
Loeb (Prodrive) won with a 2 minute and 11 second lead over the Qatari Nasser Al-Attiyah and 3 minutes and 31 seconds over Sainz’s hybrid Audi, after 822 km of race designed in valleys and sand between Al-Duwadimi and Riyadh.
This 18th stage victory for Loeb nothing changes in the delay accumulated by French regarding the “Príncipe las dunes” and last winner of the test.
Loeb is still 1 hour and 52 minutes from Al Attiyah, solid and intractable leader of the race.
The Qatari has an advantage of 1 hour and 3 minutes over fellow South African Henk Lategan, and 1 hour and 11 minutes over Brazilian Lucas Moraes, a 100% Toyota podium finish.
The participants will return to Route 10 to a second and final week of the race before arrival on January 15 in Dammam.
