Authorities linked to the prison system agree that one of the big problems is the complicity of prison officials with the organized mafia from outside and inside prisons.
Low salaries, death threats if they do not accept bribes, temptations from mafia groups that offer “tips”, or directly greater predisposition to ally with organized crime.
The factors that hamper security in prisons add up to a long list, and it is currently the key problem facing prisons throughout the country.
Prosecutor Joel Diaz, one of the participants in the riot case and escape attempt at the Concepción prison, said that this episode falls within that problematic scenario.
“The Vice Minister of Justice acknowledged that he said there are unfaithful officials who allow themselves to be convinced by these people (imprisoned gangsters),” prosecutor Joel Díaz said in a conversation with journalists.
He agreed that the elements found after the attempted mutiny was quelled (cell phones, sharp weapons and even firearms), are consequences of the relaxation of controls, and that this is linked to the complicity of officials.

In this sense, two handcrafted firearms, made with parts of a standing fan, with a minimum of metal parts introduced from outside the prison, caught our attention.
