The Dane presented this Tuesday the results of the monetary poverty in Colombia of 2021, which was 39.3% in the municipal capitals, 37.8% in populated centers and 44.6% in dispersed rural areas.
The data for 2021 is 3.2 percentage points lower than that registered in 2020, when it was 42.5%. However, in populated centers and scattered rural areas, monetary poverty presented a increase of 1.7 percentage pointsgoing from 42.9% in 2020 to 44.6% in 2021.
EXTREME POVERTY
For its part, extreme monetary poverty was 12.2%, which represents 2.9 percentage points lower than that registered in 2020, when it was 15.1%.
Thus, and according to the most recent Dane report, between 2021 and 2020, 1.4 million people came out of monetary poverty and 1.3 million people came out of extreme monetary poverty.
This measurement calculates the monetary poverty line, which corresponds at value in money that a person needs per month to acquire a basic basket of food, services and other minimum goods to live.
At the beginning of the presentation, Carlos Sepúlveda, Dean of Economics at the Universidad del Rosario and member of the Committee of Experts on Povertywho highlighted that the social aid provided by the Government was key in the purpose of reducing poverty in Colombia last year.
POVERTY LINE
For his part, the director of Dane, Juan Daniel Oviedo, announced the per capita poverty line for 2021, both in poverty and in extreme poverty.
According to the official, the extreme poverty line per capita last year was $161,099, that is, those who receive income below that value, on average, are considered in this state.
For its part, the per capita extreme poverty line in 2021 was $354,031.
