From the hand of the Corripio Foundation and the Ministry of Culture Tonight the presentation of the 2026 National Literature Prize takes place, for the Dominican writer, diplomat and professor Pedro Vergesin a ceremony at the National Theater.

About Pedro Vergés
Vergés is recognized for his prose and his impeccable command of the language and his contribution to contemporary literature. He was born in Santo Domingo on May 8, 1945. He studied philology at the University of Zaragoza, Spain; He was editor of the magazine Camp de l’Arpa in Barcelona, where he also co-founded the magazine “Hora de Poesía”.
Vergés Cimán was announced the winner of the 2026 National Literature Prize on January 23 at an event at the Corripio Foundation facilities and in the presence of Messrs. Ana Corripio de Barceló, José Alcántara Almánzar, Pastor de Moya and Juan Daniel Balcácer.
He directed the Institute of Hispanic Culture, was ambassador of the Dominican Republic to Spain; also in the Federal Republic of Germany, in Japan; He was also the country’s permanent representative to the Organization of American States; He is a member of the Dominican Academy of Language.
