Mexico City, Mexico.- The renowned Cuban composer and singer, Liuva Maria Hevia was recognized in Spain with the Shaman award by an International Jury. This award is given to institutions, media and/or people “for their exceptional contribution to the development of communication, culture, orality and the dissemination of orality and human improvement.”
In the delivery, the oral narrator and writer, Francisco Garzón Céspedes presented “The story is a conspiracy”, published by Huso editorial. Later, Liuba gave her assistants her song “Your love is my song,” while publicly acknowledging how important it is for her, in her 40-year professional career, to have received this recognition. She had previously won it from her mentor, the composer, Teresita Fernández.
“Thanks to Garzón and the Ibero-American jury for having honored me with this award that I dedicate to the Peña de los juglares and its two unforgettable hosts Teresita Fernández and Garzón himself,” Liuba said emotionally when receiving the award at the Modern Art Center in Madrid. .
According to the jury, this award recognizes artists who contribute to oral storytelling, which represents “the renewal of the ancient art of oral storytelling. It constitutes a new communicative scenic oral art, and what is more, because scenic oral narration is the most outstanding contemporary artistic testimony of the irreplaceable and elevated significance of all orality”.
In Cuba, in addition to Liuba María Hevia, the National Library, Rafael Ribot Mendoza, founder and director of the Puentepalabra group from Matanzas; Osvaldo Manuel Pérez Peñalver and Daniel Alberto Hernández Acosta, directors of the Teatro de la Palabra group; and the promoter of Cuban culture Julio Cordero.
This award adds to a long list of recognitions that Liuba has obtained, who to date has seventeen record productions. At only 31 years of age she received the Distinction for National Culturethe highest award given to artists who make significant contributions to the cuban culture.
