MIAMI, United States. — Lis Cuesta Peraza, wife of the ruler Miguel Díaz-Canel, defended the construction of socialism in Cuba and assured that communism only seeks to “think and fight” for Cubans.
In a controversial post posted on Twitterthe “First Lady” celebrated the 175th anniversary of the launch of the Communist Manifesto, by Carlos Marx and Frederick Engels, which came to light on February 21, 1848.
“Yes, I am a communist… so what? That it is a utopia, that socialism is still being built, that I will not get to see it… so what? Better to think and fight for everyone than in selfish terms, and that is communism. I celebrate the Communist Manifesto”, Cuesta Peraza wrote on the social network.
The words of Díaz-Canel’s wife received numerous criticisms on social networks, where she was described by some as “opportunistic.”
“No ma’am, you are an opportunist. Where is your record on defending workers? From the working class? Union? What happens is that in Cuba being a “communist” is the status that guarantees your privileges. Say otherwise and they will take you off the presidential plane,” responded activist Magdiel Jorge Castro.
Along the same lines, the Cuban communicator Lázaro Chirinos accused Cuesta Peraza of being “a keeper of the system.”
“Cuba stopped being communist a long time ago. In the name of a political ideal they have subjected an entire nation. You are an accomplice to the crime. Justice will fall on you and your husband, ”she expressed.
“If it is better to fight and think for everyone… what do you think if we sell your Hermes bag and other luxurious things that you have to feed those who are hungry?” questioned the tweeter Armando Sardiñas.
“You are not a communist, you are the wife of a dictator who does nothing more than defend the benefits that the position that another dictator gave her gave her. Fight for everyone, tell me how you do it with your expensive watches and shoes? You have only brought poverty and suffering to Cuba,” said a user identified as Liberio in Cuba.
