The emblematic Línea tunnel in Havana will recover tonight in the Playa-Plaza direction, while the opposite direction will remain closed between November 19 and 23 to complete the repair and modernization work that began on November 13.
The works include structural repairs, deep cleaning, new lighting and signage, the Minister of Transportation, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, detailed on Facebook.
The works, directed by the National Road Center (CNV) and supervised by geodesist engineer Gisel Pupo Almaguer, include structural repairs, deep cleaning, new lighting and signage.
For its part, the Emconat company restored and painted walls and containers, repaired the generator room, cleaned sewers and gutters, and executed the horizontal signage. Meanwhile, EcoSol was in charge of installing a double circuit with 50 50 W LED lights, and the Road Maintenance Company carried out patching.
Rodríguez Dávila specified that the closure of the Plaza-Playa direction will be permanent from 9:00 in the morning on Wednesday the 19th until 10:00 at night on Sunday, November 23.
These interventions seek to preserve the infrastructure of one of the emblematic works of Cuban engineering and guarantee greater safety and efficiency in daily traffic.
The repair of tunnels in Havana has become recurrent in recent times. In August 2024, the one on Fifth Avenue underwent maintenance work that kept it closed to traffic, although not completely.
Meanwhile, in the month of May of that same year, for two weeks, new repair works were undertaken on the Bay of HavanaSpecifically, on the Cabaña-Habana road, actions that had been planned after the repair of the opposite road in April, when the work took 10 days and concluded “48 hours earlier than planned.”
