The president of Libertad Ciudadana Chapter of Panama, Lina Vega Abad, analyzed the issue of corruption in the country and the 2021 Human Rights Report, which revealed that Panama has problems with judicial independence, freedom of expression, and government corruption.
He asserted that “playing live” is the main reason why we remain on all democracy concern lists, because the authorities themselves are destroying the institutional base.
“If the institutions don’t work and aren’t working, who solves the day-to-day life of the people from the marginal and fragile groups of the system, are the officials or politicians who are closest to them, and the deputies, mayors and representatives have created a cycle of patronage dependency that does not strengthen the institutions but rather them as people who solve the immediate problem,” he said.
