This Thursday, June 16, the process of interviewing the aspiring magistrate of the Supreme Court of Justice (CSJ) and the president of the Foundation for the Development of Citizen Freedom, Panamanian Chapter of Transparency International, Lina Vega Abad, clarified on the subject, pointing out that these processes in the end seem to be a “self-deception”, since the President of the Republic is the one who makes the last decision.
Vega sent a message to the magistrates, judges and all the lawyers who are part of this system: “What we are endangering is democracy, a democracy without a really efficient, independent, effective justice, which is not sustainable over time And anything can happen here.
He stressed that if the institutions do not provide services in the communities, the citizen is under the tutelage of the official closest to him, in this case the deputy. “The whole system, I would say, is rotten,” he said.
In his opinion, each electoral process makes us worse, “those famous improvements to the Electoral Code after each election have also been part of the farce, the political parties have not allowed important reforms to be made and these systems are producing the Assembly we have because it is an electoral system that is neither democratic nor equitable”.
