The Mixed Commission of the Constitution is made up of 13 legislators in total and the MAS has nine parliamentarians there, which guarantees the two thirds necessary to select the candidates for Ombudsman, communicated the Minister of Justice, Iván Lima.
“Legislative Assembly reached an agreement. The Constitution establishes a majority of ⅔ votes of the members present in the Legislative Assembly to elect this position, the MAS has 9 of 13 Assembly Members in the Mixed Commission and therefore the obligation for this process to be successful, ”wrote this Tuesday the head of Justice, who was part of the agreements of the new selection regulation of the next Ombudsman.
Articles 2 and 16 of the Ombudsman Selection Regulations they establish that the decisions made by the Joint Constitution Commission in the selection process must be approved “by at least two thirds of the members present” of this body; the two thirds required are nine legislators, the ideal number that the MAS has.
The opposition had achieved in marathon meetings that the decisions of the commission are approved by two thirds in the commission; the MAS had resisted that proposal because they said that the Law of the Ombudsman and the Political Constitution of the State (CPE) establish two thirds only for the election in the plenary session of the Assembly; however, Lima took it upon himself to reveal that they they have enough votes to pass the entire process.
According to the information provided by the president of this legislative instance, Rubén Gutiérrez Carrizo (MAS), This Wednesday the call will be published to all those interested in presenting themselves for this selection and on Thursday, the commission would begin to receive the applications.
So far there are a dozen people who have already mentioned their intention to participate as candidates.; likewise, there were other leaders who proposed names of former authorities for that position; This Tuesday a third group appeared that tries to socialize the idea of closing or suppressing this position because they consider that it is unnecessary for the State.
