Ligia Bonetti calls the business community to work for sustainable development

Santo Domingo. – The industrial entrepreneur Ligia Bonetti, executive president of Grupo SID, was invited to give a conference at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM), to more than 200 guests, including authorities, government officials, university managers and businessmen from the country.

In his speech, titled “REMAINS OF THE BUSINESS MANAGEMENT”, Bonetti, made a close and purposeful presentation listing 8 fundamental challenges to continue in the face of an unpredictable and challenging future for our country and international markets.

“It is up to us to turn the difficulties of the present into the opportunities of the future. It is up to us to have a strong, resilient, and productive Dominican Republic, being the spearhead of growth and national competitiveness in all sectors of the national economy,” said Bonetti.

In the same way, he delimited “An aspect that is of great importance to me due to its impact on the development of the country. It is about identifying the value that our organizations can generate. And I am not referring only to the contribution to the gross domestic product, to the generation of jobs or the investments that we have contemplated for the future. If not, rather, to the role that each one of us plays in the country’s progress towards a model of sustainable, integrating and inclusive development.”

The words of motivation were given by Dr. Mercedes Carmen Capellán de Lama, president of the Madre y Maestra Foundation, who recognized the support of the business sector, highlighting Grupo SID as an example, which she defined as an ally committed to contributing in quality education for the country.

Present at the ceremony were: The Rev. Fr. Dr. Secilio Espinal, Magnificent Rector of the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra, Dr. Milton Ray Guevara, President of the Constitutional Court, Eng. Edwin Hernández Lantigua, Executive Director of the Madre y Maestra Foundation, members of the Board of PUCMM Directors and businessmen.

SYNOPSIS CHALLENGES
1. TRUST, TRANSPARENCY AND COMMUNICATION. Without trust there is no leadership. And this is created when we are honest and ethical, when we act transparently, consistently, in front of and behind the scenes. Whereas, communication inspires, unites teams and gives a common purpose to the entire organization.

2. ASSUMING RISKS: It means breaking away from our comfort zone, innovating, embracing disruption. Organizations need visionary, courageous leaders, capable of anticipating scenarios, and who also inspire that vision in their entire team.

3. RESPONSIBLE LEADERSHIP: A leader shows his face in good times, but is even more present in difficult times. It is in those difficult moments, where the rules of the game are changed, it is when leadership shows all its potential.

4. WHAT LEADER DO YOU WANT TO BE? It involves a process of deep introspection, evaluating our trajectory, and sometimes taking new routes to achieve our goals. Decide if our priorities are only linked to the generation of wealth; or if, on the contrary, they are more aligned to leave a legacy that transcends and lasts over time.

5. CHANGES OF THE DIGITAL AGE: Today we must be more committed than ever to corporate governance, good practices, compliance with the law, inclusion, justice and equity, as a way of avoiding reputational risks and the destruction of our intangible assets. Likewise, it is important to have fair and equitable legislation that creates favorable environments for companies to develop, grow, compete and expand.

6. COMPANIES DO NOT HAVE A MISSION, THEY HAVE A PURPOSE: Let’s not think of sustainability as peripheral and sporadic actions, to gain reputation and headlines in the media. Creating well-being implies growth that is inclusive and inclusive. Fulfill the main and most transformative promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Goals: “Leave no one behind”.

7. A LEADER DOES NOT MOTIVATE, HE INSPIRES. The times call for a different kind of leadership; one that is capable of inspiring, uniting and fostering the growth of teams. As Moisés Naím would say, “size no longer means strength. Bureaucracy no longer means control and titles no longer mean authority.

8. TALENT EQUALS EDUCATION: As leaders we have different tools that make it easier to perform the function, but none can replace trained and committed talent. Their role is decisive in promoting business innovation, identifying opportunities for improvement, and making the company and teams stronger.
