The MTOP representative, when consulted by EL ECO about the lighting requested from Minister José Luis Falero on April 12 for Route 12 and the bypass – mainly where Bravo Street ends – said that they are waiting for “the arrival of batches of lighting, precisely, to complete the places that we have pending (…) they include, in their region, the departments of Colonia and Soriano.”
Collazo argues that “the ministry has given a lot of importance to lighting the entrances and exits of the towns and the bypasses. The idea is to try to comply with all the requests for lighting for traffic safety,” or to leave everything on track for the next administration. “The blanket is short,” he said in reference to economic resources.
Two works on the 21st
On the Conchillas-Carmelo section, in the Colonia department, work is being done on sections and they are being rebuilt. “There were sections where the base of the pavement had failed and that is what is being improved. Asphalt will be put on top and the entire route from Conchillas to Carmelo will be unified, which caused problems for people, because it had good sections and suddenly found another in poor condition. The work is being carried out by the company Ramón Álvarez.”
When the Highway Department finishes the bus parking areas on Route 21, “the crew will move to perform maintenance on the Carmelo-Nueva Palmira section of the road. The Ministry’s plan is to leave the Carmelo-Palmira section as a tourist route and make Route 97 for heavy traffic,” which connects Route 12 with Route 21.
